Is it cold where you live? It’s cold here too. Trees are stripped of their leaves and the sky looks like steel. There is no snow in DC (yet), so I’ve been living vicariously through Ann Marie’s beautiful winter snowscape blog posts and going through long walks through the woods while visiting my parents during the holiday weekend. Winter is practically here, which calls for some music to mirror the mood.
I’ve posted music mixes on this blog before, but I’m doing something a little different this time. Inspired by Michael’s seasonal playlists from Threading In The Choirs, I am listing the songs, artists and albums with their accompanying cover art so you can savor each of the songs for yourself. You can also stream the entire mix on Spotify here.
This winter compilation features mostly new tracks from 2012, but also includes a few of my old favorites that really capture the starkness and introspection of winter. It also includes (not so surprisingly) a lot of Icelandic artists. (Yes, that’s another one of my photos from Iceland up there, which seemed appropriate for the wintery mood.) The first thing that drew me to Iceland was its infamous roster of musicians, like Björk, Sigur Ros, Soley, Hauschka, múm, and Of Monsters and Men. Some of those artists are here, as well as some newer ones, including Fredrik and Samaris.
Hope you find some comfort and awakening in these songs. That’s what they certainly do for me. Enjoy.
