sxsw favorites playlist

night in austin

It’s been a week since I’ve returned from Austin, but my headphones are still buzzing with the new artists and songs I discovered at SXSW. While the most popular genre at the festival is “indie rock” (whatever that really means anymore), the range of music is huge.

Sure, there were the rock and synth-pop bands blowing out the speakers in noisy clubs. But there was also Daniel Bachman, a shy, ruddy-faced young man in a Budweiser shirt from Appalachia play his trance-inducing guitar in a cavernous church. There was BOY, a lady duo from Germany singing sweet pop songs on South Congress in the mid-afternoon sun. And there was The Lone Bellow playing their cathartic folk-rock songs outdoors beneath a canopy of trees and twinkling lights in the cool March night.

And now, you can experience all of these artists and more in my SXSW 2013 Favorites playlist. I saw about a dozen artists a day, over 40 in total, and these 16 tracks made the cut as my absolute favorites from my trip. Hope you enjoy them as much as I do!

      • WHAT?! But I listen to her to feel all womanly and empowered! (Mainly because of the hot album/single cover). How funny. x

  3. This is amazing. I miss the Tiny Desk Concerts (I left shortly before you arrived, i think!) and this will help me discover new artists. Step aside Stephen Thompson! 🙂 Thanks! Erin

    • Thanks, Erin! I think our paths might have (should have?) intersected before, since I’ve been there for 3 years now, am pals with Coburn, and I fondly remember your baby blog!! Taking a peek at your blog now – love.

      • Thanks Jess! I think your blog is amazing and I wish I was in town to come to the food swap. Keep posting great stuff and hopefully I’ll see you in June when I’m in town and plan to stop by the new offices.

        • Hooray, looking forward to it! Loving reading about your desert adventures. I went to USC for undergrad and regret not spending more time in Joshua Tree.
